ARTISTIC APPOARCH: Our goal is to raise awareness by challenging the stereotype of the “Angry Black woman.” Contrary to common misconceptions, Black women are not more predisposed to express anger than any other demographic in the United States. Nevertheless, they often face racist comments that inaccurately characterize them as “angry.” Fixating on a Black woman’s tone perpetuates biased perspectives rooted in both sexism and racism, leading to concrete repercussions. A specific study revealed that Black women perceived as angry tended to receive lower performance evaluations and were suggested for smaller raises.

HISTORY: The historical record in the United States reveals that Black women have been integral to the American workforce for a longer period than any other group of women. Despite facing consistent challenges such as limited access to education, inadequate employment opportunities, and unequal compensation, these resilient women have not only persevered but also developed strategies for survival and instigated transformative changes. Their ability to adapt, referred to as ‘cultural flexibility,’ is evident in various aspects of life, including socialization patterns for both male and female children, interpersonal dynamics, kinship and marital relationships, as well as their engagement in professional and community spheres. This exploration delves into the impact of institutionalized racism and sexism on the economic and personal choices of women, shedding light on the enduring consequences of labor market participation on family and community life.

SUMMARY: We will delve into the cultural dynamics that render the present moment the most thrilling period in history for women of color and black women in the corporate world. Examining entrenched conventions, gender roles, and sexism, we’ll uncover the obstacles that women of color may encounter despite their strides. Additionally, we’ll engage in discussions with investors and industry trailblazers to understand the significance of supporting women of color and black women in corporate settings. The aim is to cultivate policies and practices that promote female empowerment and progress in the workplace.

IMPACT: The creation of this film is essential as it delves into the experiences of underrepresented minorities, specifically women of color and Black women, in corporate settings. It sheds light on the insufficient support and encouragement these individuals receive from their managers. In contrast to their white counterparts, Black women face disparities in having their work showcased, being advocated for new opportunities, and being granted chances to lead teams and projects. Moreover, Black women are less likely to report that their managers assist them in navigating organizational politics or achieving a balance between work and personal life.
